t. Charles County’s residents and businesses are served by some of the region’s best public servants (PDF) and award-winning agencies ensuring a dynamic, safe, and healthy community.
Social Services
Neighborly concern and an attitude of generosity are characteristics of the area with many non-profit organizations providing first-class social services to those in need in and around St. Charles County.
The Community Council of St. Charles County was created in 1954 to serve as a clearinghouse for the health and social welfare agencies in the area.
The Tri-County United Way, a division of the United Way of Greater St. Louis, serves residents in St. Charles, Lincoln and Warren counties.
The Community and Children’s Resources Board administers the Community Children’s Service Fund which is supported by an 1/8-cent sales tax passed by local voters in 2004. The funds are dedicated for services to
St. Charles County youth and are awarded to local agencies to provide services that address the growing unmet mental health needs of the community.
Serving the area for more than 30 years, the Development Disabilities Resource Board (DDRB) is a public taxing entity that enters into funding contracts with local agencies to provide community based program and support for St. Charles County residents with development disabilities.
For more than 30 years, United Services has been serving St. Charles County children with special needs.
Community Living Inc. (CLI) was established in 1978 to develop and coordinate needed services for people with disabilities who range in age from children to seniors.
Established in 1959, BCI is a not-for-profit, nationally accredited work center and placement service offering productive and fulfilling employment opportunities for adults with disabilities.
Founded in 1974 as a youth shelter, Youth in Need (YIN) has evolved into a multi-service agency helping children, youth, and families in eastern Missouri.
Located in the Defiance area, Our Lady’s Inn-St. Charles is an emergency care shelter for pregnant women in crisis.
Law Enforcement & Emergency Services
Headquartered in O’Fallon, the St. Charles County Sheriff’s Department has the mission to provide safety and security to the unincorporated areas of the community. Some of the duties performed by commissioned personnel in the Sheriff’s Department range from patrols and investigations to operating school resource offices and court services. Civilian staff handle dispatching, lab analysis and other administrative functions.
To augment and support emergency response services, the Enhanced 9-1-1 System is used to route emergency calls to the correction location for immediate assistance and is managed by the County’s Emergency Management Agency (EMA).
“To Serve and Protect” is the credo of municipal law enforcement agencies responsible for the incorporated areas of St. Charles County. Local communities operating their own police departments include the cities of Cottleville, Lake Saint Louis, O’Fallon, St. Charles, St. Peters, and Wentzville.
To provide enhanced public safety for the region, a state-of-the-art facility for Missouri Highway Patrol Troop C opened in Weldon Spring in 2008.
The St. Charles County Ambulance District provides emergency medical and ambulance transfer services throughout the area. Two ambulances are also operated by the St. Charles Fire Department within the city of
St. Charles.
The O’Fallon Fire Protection District serves a 67-square-mile area and is the community’s largest emergency service provider. The second largest, Wentzville Fire Protection District, services more than 48-square-miles. Central County Fire and Rescue provides emergency response services to St. Peters, St. Charles and surrounding areas. The Lake Saint Louis Fire Protection District serves a seven-square-milea area.
Several fire protection districts also exist to serve the communities of Augusta, Cottleville, Orchard Farm, Portage Des Sioux and West Alton.
From responding to life-threatening emergencies to enhancing the quality of life for those in need, the abundance of professional agencies in St. Charles County are making a real difference in the community.
