Meeting Growth with Care: How St. Charles County is Expanding Healthcare for a Growing Community

Published Thursday, April 16, 2026

As St. Charles County continues to attract new families, employers, and investment, healthcare providers are expanding right alongside that growth.  Across the county, major healthcare systems are making significant investments to ensure residents can access high-quality care closer to home, a reflection of both rising demand and confidence in the county’s future.

In rapidly growing Wentzville, two major projects are reshaping the local healthcare landscape.  Mercy recently began construction on a new 75-bed hospital campus designed to serve one of Missouri’s fastest-growing regions.  Mercy President and CEO Steve Mackin said the project represents “the next chapter in that legacy — bringing health and hope to one of the fastest-growing communities in our region.” The new hospital will provide inpatient and outpatient services, emergency care, and specialty treatment, helping meet the needs of the county’s rapidly expanding western corridor.

BJC is also increasing its presence in Wentzville with plans for a dedicated pediatric care center, bringing specialized children’s healthcare services to local families who previously may have needed to travel farther for treatment.  Existing BJC outpatient services in the community already emphasize convenient, close-to-home care for families throughout the County.

Further east, SSM Health’s outpatient center on Caledonia Parkway in O’Fallon continues to expand the range of services available to residents in one location, including urgent care, specialty care, imaging, and pharmacy services.  These types of outpatient investments reflect a larger shift in healthcare toward making care more accessible and efficient for busy families.

Healthcare growth in St. Charles County also extends beyond patient care. In St. Peters, Medline’s $75 million distribution center strengthens the region’s healthcare supply chain while creating jobs that support the local economy.  Medline Executive Vice President Steve Miller noted, “We pledge to continue to be good neighbors, responsible employers, and real advocates for improving the delivery of health care in this state and region.”

Together, these investments show how St. Charles County’s population growth is driving meaningful healthcare expansion. As more residents choose to call the county home, the community is responding with the infrastructure needed to support healthier futures for generations to come.
