Building Hope: Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County Celebrates 100th Home and Ambitious New Project

Published Tuesday, August 19, 2025

At a time when communities across the nation are facing a growing affordable housing crisis, Habitat for Humanity of St. Charles County is helping families realize the dream of homeownership. For many hardworking families, the chance to purchase a safe, affordable home means not just stability—but opportunity. It means children growing up in neighborhoods where they can thrive. It means parents investing in their futures rather than struggling with the uncertainty of rising rent.

This year, Habitat marked an incredible milestone: building its 100th home for a local family right here in St. Charles County. Each home represents not just lumber and bricks, but dedication from volunteers, donors, community leaders, and—most importantly—the families themselves, who work alongside Habitat during the construction process.

And while those first 100 homes mark an incredible legacy, Habitat is already looking ahead to what’s next. The organization is currently undertaking its most ambitious project to date: Haven Pointe, an $8 million, 46-home subdivision of Habitat homes in Wentzville. Once complete, Haven Pointe will provide safe and affordable housing for dozens of families who might otherwise be priced out of homeownership. This project is more than a neighborhood—it’s a lifeline for families seeking stability and a place to call their own.

Housing as a Foundation for Growth

Habitat's growing momentum aligns with priorities outlined in the EDC’s five-year strategic plan, which identifies the growing need for attainable workforce housing across St. Charles County.  And the timing couldn’t be more critical.  Rising construction costs, limited housing stock, and record demand for attainable homes are squeezing families across the region.  Affordable housing is more than a social issue—it’s an economic one. Employers rely on a workforce that can afford to live near job centers. Communities rely on stable neighborhoods to attract investment and sustain growth.

By creating pathways to homeownership, Habitat strengthens the local economy and builds stronger communities. Families who purchase Habitat homes invest back into the county through property taxes, school enrollment, and neighborhood engagement. They also gain financial security that helps break cycles of poverty and creates opportunities for the next generation.

Looking Ahead

From its first home to its 100th—and now toward an entire subdivision— Habitat is building futures, opportunities, and communities where everyone has the chance to thrive.
