Virtual St. Charles County Manufacturing Day to Showcase Today’s Manufacturing Industry to Area Students October 6

Published Friday, October 2, 2020

October 2, 2020; St. Charles, MO – In recent years, technology has dramatically altered the manufacturing industry. On October 6, upper elementary, middle, and high school students in St Charles County will get a first-hand look at today’s modern manufacturing industry by participating in Virtual Manufacturing Day St. Charles County 2020.

The online event will showcase how manufacturing has evolved in the 21st century. Students will get an inside look at the manufacturing companies in their community, careers in today’s modern manufacturing industry, and the skills and education needed to build a successful career in manufacturing.

St. Charles County has recognized National Manufacturing Day since 2012, historically with an in-person event attracting up to 1,000 students and educators. It’s become the largest celebration of its kind in the St. Louis region. As the COVID-19 pandemic sidelined so many other live events, it also forced Manufacturing Day St. Charles County organizers to make alternate plans.

“Today’s manufacturing industry is really driven by new and advancing technology,” St. Charles Community College Associate Dean of Workforce and Educational Partnerships Tammie De Los Santos said. “This virtual event is designed to showcase that and get more students excited about the opportunities in and importance of manufacturing.”

The online event will begin at 8:30 a.m. on October 6 with an hour-long live panel discussion and interactive Q&A session. Following the panel, local manufacturers will be offering virtual tours of their facilities to show real life applications of what’s discussed. All portions of the event will also be recorded and available for online viewing afterwards.

Educators can sign up their class to participate in the event by contacting Tammie De Los Santos at 636.922.8474 or tdelossantos@stchas.edu. More information about the event is available at growmanufacturing.org.

Manufacturing Day St. Charles County is a joint venture hosted by St. Charles Community College, the City of O’Fallon, O’Fallon Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Greater St. Charles County Chamber of Commerce, St. Charles County Workforce & Business Development Department, Missouri Job Center of St. Charles County, and the Economic Development Center (EDC) of St. Charles County.
