Piston Automotive, the world's largest automotive assembly supplier, has chosen St. Charles County for its newest facility. In late 2022, the Detroit-based manufacturer will open a $10 million facility in Wentzville that is projected to create over 200 new jobs.
Piston recently won a contract from General Motors to assemble a wide variety of parts for the Chevy Colorado and GMC Canyon trucks. Its new location will be just two miles from GM's Wentzville Assembly Plant, the third-largest GM production plant in the world and the largest manufacturer in the St. Louis region by the number of employees.
“We are thrilled to be opening a second facility in the great state of Missouri and building our new team from the Wentzville community,” said Piston Automotive president Bob Holloway in a press release. “Our new Wentzville location is an exciting strategic milestone in our organization that provides a solid foundation to successfully launch our new General Motors products and supporting our growth at Piston Automotive.”
Piston is the latest GM partner to open a facility in Wentzville. Others include Lear Corp., which makes seats for vans, and Ground Effects Ltd., which makes bedliners for trucks.
