Credit Analyst
FLSA Status: Exempt
Reports To: VP, Business Lending
Salary Range: $60,000 - $75,000 commensurate with experience
Purpose Statement: Support and strengthen the EDC’s SBA lending portfolio and reputation for excellent service, accuracy, and responsiveness. This role partners with lenders to structure and advance SBA opportunities while providing key support to the VP of Business Lending.
This position is responsible for front-end underwriting, eligibility analysis, and submission of SBA 504 loan applications. The analyst structures transactions, analyzes financials, ensures compliance with SBA SOP requirements, and prepares complete loan packages for submission through SBA systems. The primary goal is to efficiently move qualified projects from intake to SBA approval through accurate, well-structured, and compliant submissions.

- Strong working knowledge of SBA policies and procedures
- Ability to gather documentation, underwrite credit requests, and support loan structuring with partner lenders
- Contribute to successful achievement of annual departmental goals for new loan pipeline, loan approvals, and loan closings/disbursements in a timely manner
- Completion of annual professional development requirements
Essential Functions
- Gather and evaluate initial loan information, determine program eligibility, and structure credit requests
- Analyze financial statements and assess creditworthiness
- Serve as a primary point of contact for partner lenders and applicants, ensuring clear and timely communication
- Compile and analyze borrower credit information for underwriting and processing
- Evaluate loan risk and make recommendations
- Assist small business owners in securing financing by preparing and submitting loan packages to the EDC Loan Committee and SBA
- Prepare reports for management
- Support loan servicing and closing processes
- Maintain knowledge of SBA eligibility requirements and ensure accurate, complete loan submissions
- Conduct global cash flow analysis
- Review financial projections
Characteristics and Experience Needed
- Strong understanding of financial statements and key ratios, including leverage and debt service coverage
- Analytical mindset with the ability to evaluate companies across industries, considering market and economic factors
- Organized self-starter able to manage multiple priorities
- Adaptable, resilient, and aligned with organizational culture and values
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential information
- Ability to contribute to and support continuous improvement
- Comfortable working with internal and external partners and presenting in small group settings
- Team-oriented with a willingness to support broader organizational needs
- Interest in economic development and supporting business growth and community investment
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience in commercial lending
- Experience with any of the following platforms: Ventures, Abrigo, NCinco, Lendingwise, or Biz2x
- SBA SOP 50 10 familiarity
- E-Tran submission experience
- Preferred: 3+ years of SBA lending experience, ideally in a banking or CDC environment
Physical Effort:
The position will require talking, listening, reading, and sitting for long periods working at a computer screen. This position requires some flexibility in work schedule.
Work Environment:
The position will be in a climate-controlled office in the EDC offices located in St. Peters, Missouri, and could require some travel, both during the week or occasionally over the weekend. The nature of the position requires the SBA Credit Analyst to occasionally participate in evening events.
